Manor Farm Site: Interpretation Centre Volunteering

After extensive restoration, the historic Manor Farm Site in Ruislip has been open to the public since June 2008.
The site comprises of

  • a 13th century Great Barn
  • a 16th century Manor House
  • a 16th Century Little Barn and
  • a Motte and Bailey

The site falls within the borough of Hillingdon’s Archaeological priority area and Ruislip Village Conservation area. The site is a living, vibrant facility incorporating a thriving library which is based in the Little Barn, a performance hall, art gallery and community facilities. Many of the buildings are available for hire and the site is accessible 365 days a year.

Volunteers are needed to help run the interpretation centre located in the Manor Farm House and to support the Education and Enrichment programme. The interpretation centre is a permanent multi media exhibition, helping visitors to understand and explore the history of the site.

Commitment times are flexible though some weekend working will be required.
Hours Required:
Open Hours
Winter: Mon – Fri 12pm – 3pm, Sat & Sun 12pm* – 4pm
Summer: Mon – Fri 10am – 3pm, Sat & Sun 11am – 4pm
*Except market Sundays (1st + 3rd of the month) when open 11am– 4pm

Types of Activity:
Generally helping the daily running of the interpretation centre and heritage site, support cross borough events i.e. Hayes Carnival, Medieval Festival and Big Fest, work with the education officer on various  historical and arts & crafts projects.

Skills and Qualifications:
Good customer service skills, a warm and friendly manner, enthusiasm, an interest in Heritage and the ability to work in a team.

Recruitment Process:
Informal discussion, completion of application form followed by interview, checking of references, police check then begin trial period.
