Ushering

As an usher, you are the welcoming face of the Arts Service. You will be required to take tickets, show people to their seats, answer queries and provide information. On a more serious note, you will also be required to assist a Duty Manager in carrying out an evacuation of the premises in the event of an emergency.

As most of our ushers are provided to us by companies hiring the venue, training is provided on a nightly basis, so ushers can work as frequently or infrequently as they like!

As ushers are only required during performance times, the vast majority of this work is during evening time, although we do need people for our Saturday morning children’s shows, schools projects etc. Ushers usually start one hour prior to a performance, and must remain until the end of the show.

Although many ushers do get to see performances, some ushering duties are carried out outside of the auditorium and so we cannot guarantee that you will see a particular show.

You will need good communication skills, a friendly and approachable manner and remain calm under pressure.
